Fuel Economy and Extra Power
Even if official fuel consumption numbers haven’t been made available yet, they are sure to impress once more. Moreover, the 2022 Jetta has a brand new engine which is more powerful than the last 2021 engine. As for the GLI, everything under the hood remains the same.
For information purposes, here are the last known 2021 city/highway fuel consumption numbers for the two models: 7.9/5.8 L per 100 km for the Jetta, and 9.7/7.0 L per 100 km for the GLI. A brand new engine for the 2022 Jetta
As previously stated, a brand new engine will find its place under the Volkswagen Jetta’s hood. Instead of the 1.4 L 4-cylinder with 147 horsepower, you will find a 1.5 L 4-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft. maximum torque. It can be coupled with a 6- speed manual transmission or an 8- speed automatic transmission.
If this engine seems familiar to you, it is because it is also found in the new 2022 VW Taos. Furthermore, the compression ratio for this engine is 11.5 to 1, which is higher than the 10 to 1 for the 2021 Jetta; this means greater fuel economy.
So, even if the engine is more powerful, its fuel consumption numbers will be lower than the current ones.
GLI
When it comes to the GLI, you will find the same 2.0 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. maximum torque. You will have the choice between a standard 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Jetta vs Jetta GLI: a more sophisticated interior
Both the Volks Jetta and the Volks GLI have inviting and spacious interiors, where technology meets commodity. You will also find a brand new 100% digital dashboard on every model: the Trendline and Comfortline versions have an 8- inch screen, while the Highline and all of the Jetta GLI versions have 10- inch screens.
Moreover, there is a MIB3 infotainment system with Car-Net connectivity which comes standard with every model, except for the Trendline version. As far as other added technologies aboard the Jetta and Jetta GLI, you will find wireless Apple CarPlay/Adroid Auto compatibility, a wireless phone charger, a new leather upholstered steering wheel with integrated switches (GLI) and much more.
Exterior
The interior is not the only place you will find new and added features; the exterior also follows suit. You will have the choice between 7 different body colors. There are also exclusive wheels for each model: 16- inch wheels for the Jetta and 18- inches if you opt for one of the GLI versions.
Furthermore, front and rear bumpers have been redesigned, two chromed lines are added to the center of the grille and reach the new VW logo. The Jetta GLI also has its signature red line at the very center of the grille.
2022 VW Jetta: prices and arrival dates in Canada
Only a few more weeks before the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta and the 2022 GLI are due to arrive, as they were said to reach dealerships in the fall of 2021. Although 2022 prices have still not been made official, the manufacturer confirms that they will be quite similar to the suggested prices for the 2021 models.
